چکیده
Abstract Background Brain function is thought to rely on complex interactions of dynamic neural systems, which depend the integrity structural and functional networks. Focal epilepsy considered result from excessive focal synchronization in network. Synchronization analysis multichannel electrocorticography (ECoG) contributes understanding orientation epilepsy. The aim this study was explore ECoG recordings patients with neocortical characterize activity inside outside onset zone. Methods Four epilepsy, who became seizure-free for more than 1 year after surgery guided by monitoring, were included study. data recorded during pre-surgical evaluation analyzed. Synchronizations phase amplitude different frequency bands between channels analyzed using MATLAB. We generated 100 surrogate original Amplitude Adjusted Fourier Transform calculate enhanced synchronization. relationship characteristics seizure zone Results found clusters 14–30 Hz 30–80 around areas both interictal beginning ictal periods all four patients. Conclusions enhanced-synchronization play a central role may activate contribute spreading epileptiform activity.

High-frequency Oscillations and the Seizure Onset Zones in Neocortical Epilepsy
BACKGROUND To study the characters of high-frequency oscillations (HFOs) in the seizure onset zones (SOZ) and the nonseizure onset zones (NSOZ) in the electrocorticography (ECoG) of patients with neocortical epilepsy. METHODS Only patients with neocortical epilepsy who were seizure-free after surgery as determined with ECoG were included. We selected patients with normal magnetic resonance im...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the suppressive effect of electric cortical stimulation upon the seizure onset zone and the non-epileptic cortex covered by subdural electrodes in patients with neocortical epilepsy and mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE). METHODS Four patients with medically intractable focal epilepsy had implanted subdural electrodes for preoperative evaluation. Cortical functional ma...
متن کاملNeocortical synchronization.
Neuronal synchronization occurs when two or more neuronal events are coordinated across time. Local synchronization produces field potentials. Long-range synchronization between distant brain sites contributes to the electroencephalogram. Neuronal synchronization depends on synaptic (chemical/electrical), ephaptic, and extracellular interactions. For an expanded treatment of this topic see Jasp...
متن کاملStability of Synchronization Clusters and Seizurability in Temporal Lobe Epilepsy
PURPOSE Identification of critical areas in presurgical evaluations of patients with temporal lobe epilepsy is the most important step prior to resection. According to the "epileptic focus model", localization of seizure onset zones is the main task to be accomplished. Nevertheless, a significant minority of epileptic patients continue to experience seizures after surgery (even when the focus i...
متن کاملThe Sub-Regional Functional Organization of Neocortical Irritative Epileptic Networks in Pediatric Epilepsy
Between seizures, irritative network generates frequent brief synchronous activity, which manifests on the EEG as interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs). Recent insights into the mechanism of IEDs at the microscopic level have demonstrated a high variance in the recruitment of neuronal populations generating IEDs and a high variability in the trajectories through which IEDs propagate across ...
